Solon Springs board adopts DNR-recommended Act 175 floodplain ordinance with lenient homeowner option

The Village of Solon Springs Board of Trustees voted June 22 to adopt the state-recommended floodplain ordinance, Act 175, selecting Option 2, which trustees said is more lenient for homeowners. President Ben Evans told the board he had discussed the ordinance with Mia Van Horn of the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources; Trustee Todd Gilbert moved and Trustee Melissa Johnson seconded the motion to adopt Option 2, and the motion carried.
Trustees said Option 2 provides homeowners greater ability to rebuild and modify structures after flood damage and noted that the community could qualify for a 5% reduction on flood-insurance premiums if it enrolls in the program. The adoption was recorded as a formal motion and approved during old-business discussion; the county, Evans said, is leaning toward the same option. The board did not record further amendments or a roll-call tally beyond “motion carried.”
