Economic Development Advisory Board presents downtown subcommittee and goals

The Economic Development Advisory Board briefed the Rowlett City Council on Sept. 15 about its role in screening incentive applications and supporting business retention and downtown revitalization.
Michael Weaver, chair of the advisory board, said the EDAB provides a prescreening function for development incentive requests and works with the Chamber of Commerce and staff to inform council recommendations. "The mission statement of the Economic Development Advisory Board is to advise the city council on economic development strategies that promote and foster private investment and job creation to ensure a sustainable business environment for Rowlett," Weaver said. He listed board members and ex officio partners and noted the board will continue business-retention visits and review incentive applications.
Rhonda Wolfe introduced a newly formed downtown subcommittee intended to give residents, property owners, developers and nonprofit leaders a forum for input on downtown revitalization in line with the citys 2024 strategic plan. Wolfe described a recent community survey that prioritized community, walkability, safety and visual improvements and said the subcommittee will use targeted engagement and surveys to align projects with the downtown strategic plan.
Council thanked the presenters and moved to later agenda items. The EDABs work is advisory; any formal action or funding tied to downtown initiatives would require separate council action.
