Council reviewed written support and initial contract language for a proposed leash-free dog park along Reading’s pedestrian trail. A letter from Michele Gottschlich, included in communications, said the plan had been vetted by Mill Creek Alliance and the Mill Creek Collaborative and would be environmentally sound and socially beneficial. “I urge the Reading City Council to support this project and help move it forward,” Gottschlich wrote.
Recreation Chair Scott Thamann told council he has received contractor bids for construction and that consultant Joe Morganroth of Stephen A. Smith Associates completed design work for the site. Council read an ordinance authorizing the Safety/Service Director to enter into agreements with Hyde Park Landscaping and Best Fence Cincinnati for construction of a community dog park, not to exceed $64,000; the ordinance was declared a first reading only and no final vote occurred at this meeting. Thamann also said the site is along the Bill Elfers walking trail and not adjacent to homes, which he described as favorable for a community amenity.
