Mayor: Givaudan project will bring $130 million investment and 300-plus jobs to Reading

Mayor Robert “Bo” Bemmes opened the administrative reports by highlighting a corporate expansion expected to substantially affect Reading’s economy. “The grand opening for Givaudan was held today with the reminder that they are going to construct a $130 million dollar facility that when totally completed will bring over 300 new jobs to our city with substantial new revenue for our City and our Reading Community Schools,” Bemmes said.
Bemmes credited several local partners for the development, including the Safety and Services Director, economic development consultants and regional job agencies. He also used his remarks to remind residents about seasonal operations: Public Works will winterize parks beginning the first week of November, leaf pickup will start next week, and a CPR/AED training for residents is scheduled for Nov. 8. Bemmes noted county discussion of possible ballot activity around property-tax reform and summarized estimates discussed at a municipal league meeting about the fiscal effects if property taxes were eliminated.
