Commission funds election equipment and creates ad hoc to formalize relocation procedures amid litigation

The commission approved $13,910 to purchase two pieces of equipment to aid the Election Commission in handling and moving voter records and files during an ongoing election and redistricting process, and created a five-member ad hoc to draft procedures for department relocations.

Commissioners debated whether funding the equipment amounted to ratifying an unauthorized relocation. Opponents said the Election Commission moved into county property without approval and warned that appropriating funds would reward unlawful action; proponents and the law director countered that the money would keep election operations functional during redistricting and ongoing litigation. "There's also there's still an election going on," one commissioner said in support of funding the equipment to avoid operational disruptions.

The appropriation carried after commissioners divided the item into two votes. The funding motion received the threshold number of yes votes to pass; the ad hoc to develop relocation procedures was also established and referred to the General Operations committee for appointments and oversight.
