Highway engineer: Red Ball Trail bridge, Smithboro culverts and floor estimates discussed

Highway Engineer Jeremy Pestle presented his mid-December report to the Bond County Board and answered questions about several ongoing and planned projects. Regarding the Red Ball Trail bridge, Pestle said the county was waiting on Illinois Department of Transportation approval before scheduling the rock letting. Board members also asked why the letting was later this year than last year; Pestle said he was waiting to receive information from each township road commissioner.
Pestle said Old Ripley will be able to use the county's track hoe once temperatures make patch work impractical, and that culvert replacements for Smithboro "were on the list". The mayor of Smithboro, Bill Archibald, told the board the culverts have been delayed for years and are becoming a safety hazard; Pestle said he planned to call Archibald the following morning to set a time. Pestle also presented an estimate from Concrete Superfloors & Resurfacing for possible replacement of the shop and office floors; the board requested two additional estimates for comparison.
