Engineer: ICC, BNSF to fund Red Ball Trail wooden bridge; public meeting set Jan. 7

Highway Engineer Mike McCormick updated the Bond County Board on the Red Ball Trail wooden bridge project during the Dec. 3 meeting.
McCormick said he met with the Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC), BNSF Railroad, IDOT Local Roads and the IDOT Rail Safety Division and reported that the ICC will fund most of the project and the railroad will cover the remainder, which would leave no direct cost to Bond County. He said the project is ready to move forward and that he is scheduling a public informational meeting for Jan. 7, 2025.
Board members did not vote on project funding or construction at the meeting. McCormick’s update centered on coordination among federal and state rail and transportation authorities and on the upcoming public meeting where residents can learn project details and timelines.
