Lincoln County canvasses Corona Schools special election; county returns split
Summary
The Lincoln County Canvassing Board reviewed tabulator tapes and hand tallies March 31 and found Lincoln County’s portion of the Corona Schools special all-mail election split 43–44 on the tax question; the three-county aggregated result was 57 for and 60 against.
The Lincoln County Board of County Commissioners recessed its March 31 special meeting and convened as the Lincoln County Canvassing Board to review the Corona Schools special all-mail election.
County Clerk Shannan Hemphill presented tabulator tapes, the voter roster and hand-tally forms and reported specific counts: “There were 244 active voters and 10 inactive voters for a total of 254 registered voters in the Corona School District in Lincoln County.” Ballots were mailed to active voters on February 25, 2026; of 244 mailed, 88 were returned (87 accepted, 1 rejected) and 20 were returned undeliverable. Lincoln County’s returns on the tax question were 43 for and 44 against; when combined with Torrance and Socorro counties the district-wide totals were 57 for and 60 against.
After the canvass, the Board voted unanimously to adjourn the Canvassing Board and reconvene as the Board of County Commissioners. The Board then approved the canvass of the Corona Schools special election as presented by the clerk. All motions during the canvass proceedings passed by unanimous roll call votes (Yes = 5).
The results attached to the minutes are identified as Exhibit A to the minutes for March 31, 2026. The Board set its next regular meeting for April 21, 2026 and adjourned the special meeting at 8:51 AM.
