The city manager told the council the America250 committee had chosen Nov. 7 after discussions and that the Veterans Advisory Council had expressed concern about date conflicts and the cumulative strain of several parades and festivals in a short period. Council members — many of whom identified themselves as veterans or said they support veterans organizations — recommended asking the America250 committee to reconsider the date or, if the committee would not move, that the event be hosted in a different city without a Veterans Day parade. "I don't think it's appropriate to put this parade right before Veterans Day," one council member said. The council asked staff to convey that request to the America250 committee and to seek one more reconsideration.
