Nottoway students describe summer internships across county agencies

Students across Nottoway County summarized summer internship placements and the skills they gained, telling the meeting that hands-on experience and exposure to local government and services helped them prepare for future study and careers.
"This internship has been beneficial for me in many ways," said Nicholas Hayes, who described background work for one-day community events, adding that organizing those events revealed the amount of work behind the scenes. Several students said internships improved communication, organization and teamwork; one noted that working with older staff raised expectations and helped build confidence.
Interns named specific placements: town-hall work in Crete, positions at the Nottoway Sheriff's Office, technical internships with Nottoway County Public Schools' IT department, animal-shelter work, an Extension Office placement, and hands-on mechanical work at the Blackstone Bus Shop. Joshua Arms, who worked at the bus shop, recommended the experience to students aiming for mechanical or auto-body careers, saying it offered direct, practical training.
