Acting County Chairman Kevin McCall moved and Commissioner Samuel Schropp seconded approval of Resolution 2024-34 to adopt corrected mill rates for 2024 after the assessor's office reported an omission affecting School District 16 (Vaughn).
Linda Gallegos, Chief County Deputy Assessor, told the board that "the rate should be 0.65 mills" for the Vaughn school bond covering tax years 2019 through 2024 and that the Department of Finance and Administration had added the omitted mill rate back. She apologized for the error: "She apologizes for overlooking this on her worksheet and others as well." Schropp said he reviewed the assessor's records and that they reflected Gallegos's explanation.
Commissioners voted by roll call: Schropp —Yes— and McCall —Yes—; the motion carried and the board signed the order to submit the corrected mill rates to the State of New Mexico Department of Finance. The corrected total school mill rate for 2024 was reported as 6.679.
The action was procedural: the board adopted a corrected calculation to be submitted to the state rather than creating a new tax or bond. The clerk noted the board will transmit the signed order to the Department of Finance and Administration as required.
