The Henry County Health and Social Services Committee on Jan. 14 approved a temporary extension of courthouse stipends at the same rate through the end of March after the abrupt resignation of the HR Associate at Hillcrest. Member Kathy Nelson moved the original measure and Member Bob Wachtel amended it; Member Kippy Breeden seconded the amendment and the amended motion carried on a roll call vote.
Committee members and administrators said the extension is intended to ensure on-site HR coverage at Hillcrest during recruiting and training. Administrator Kevin Powell explained the need for continuity of HR duties, backup coverage, and preparation for state inspections as the facility reorganizes job duties. The committee noted concerns about staff burnout and the short-term nature of the stipend extension while recruitment proceeds.
