Montevallo raises lodging tax to 6%, effective Oct. 1, 2026

The Montevallo City Council on July 13 adopted Ordinance No. 07222024-140A, amending Chapter 22 of the municipal code to raise the privilege (lodging) tax from five percent to six percent of the charge for rooms and accommodations. The ordinance cites authority under State of Alabama Code Title 40-26-1 et seq. and exempts stays of 180 continuous days or more.
Council Member David King moved adoption and Council Member Kenneth Dukes seconded; the motion passed unanimously. The ordinance states the proceeds will support general city operations as appropriated by the council and that collection of the new 6% rate will begin October 1, 2026.
