The Zoning Board of Appeals voted 4–1 on July 27 to allow a circular driveway and wider curb cut at 832 North Broadway. Jesse Boucher of Kodiak Construction presented renderings, Design Review Board input and a narrowed alternative that reduced the variance request to about 10.2 feet for the curved areas of the driveway; he said the two city spruce trees on the 4th Street frontage would remain.
Board discussion balanced comparables the applicant provided against concerns about scale and narrow adjacent lanes. "My concern is not about the practicality of it. It's the way that it it in my opinion changes the neighborhood character," a board member opposed to approval said during deliberations. The board nevertheless concluded the applicant had presented sufficient neighborhood comparables and mitigation, and approved the variance 4–1 (record shows one member opposed).
