The Whitman County Planning Commission elected Brian Davies as its new chair at the Jan. 7 workshop following nominations from several commissioners. After nominations for Dean Kinzer and others, the commission used a show-of-hands tally and declared Davies the winner; the chair announced the count as six votes in Davies' favor.
The commission then selected Dave Gibney as vice chair in a separate vote that the chair recorded as 5-4. Brian Davies said the newly elected leadership would take on agenda and procedural responsibilities for the year ahead. "Dave has been elected vice chair by a vote of 5 to 4," Davies said during the meeting. The leadership change means Davies will preside over upcoming hearings, including the time-sensitive critical areas ordinance review and any SEPA-related proceedings.
