Verizon's attorney and technical team told the Planning Board the application seeks permission for a 130‑foot monopole intended to reduce a significant coverage gap on Westport Island. The presenters used propagation maps to show current gray/white areas (unreliable service) and said the proposed site would produce green (in‑building) coverage for most of the island.
"You have a significant gap in coverage," the RF presenter said while explaining the modeling and how vegetation and ledge affect signal propagation. Company representatives said the site would contain a small fenced compound with an equipment cabinet and a backup generator (used only during outages), and that Verizon would allow co‑location so other carriers could place arrays on the same structure.
