During his manager's report at the July 28 meeting, Jonathan informed the council that he has formally tendered his resignation and that his last day with Newington will be Sept. 2.
"My last day with Newington will be on, September 2," Jonathan said, adding that he had accepted a township-manager position outside Philadelphia. He described the decision as made with "very mixed emotions" and praised the community and staff, saying he would attend one more meeting to say farewell.
Jonathan also updated the council on operational items: abatement of abandoned vehicles at a Francis Avenue property is progressing and Wallace Middle School is essentially complete, with an open-house planned before school starts. Councilors thanked Jonathan for his service and said they would have more to say at a future meeting.
