Pelican Rapids Schools outline preschool transport, college credits and long-term planning

Superintendent Brian Korf and a school delegation updated the Pelican Rapids City Council on district programs and planning. Korf introduced principal Laura Janiszewski and school board members Andrew Sorum and Chris Lindbergh and thanked the council for past partnerships, citing the Chauncey Martin Complex collaboration on a trailhead and warming house.
Principal Laura Janiszewski highlighted preschool for 3- and 4-year-olds with free midday transportation for district residents and said kindergarten class sizes average about 19. At the high school, the district offers 36 opportunities for students to earn college credit and expanded workforce-preparation certifications in CNA, CDL and EMT, along with CTE pathways into trades.
Korf outlined a long-term planning process that runs Aug. 24–Nov. 4, including a focus group (two meetings), an ESS team (four meetings) and school-board review; he asked for city representation on the committees and set an Aug. 7 target for council members to express interest. The district said the fund-balance policy (22–25%) has been met in recent years and that committees will produce prioritized recommendations on facilities and programming.
