Elizabeth Winchester told commissioners Palmyra Park's entry "looks atrocious" because of oversized cylinders and inconsistent fixtures and urged the city to standardize and improve aesthetics.
Wild Hemphill (via submitted letter) requested several changes to make public recreation spaces safer and more inclusive for young and sensory children, including a designated toddler-only time at the splash pad, padding on metal poles, shade sails over playgrounds and fields, improved water fountains or bottle-fill stations, and consideration of a small fenced area for younger children.
"Children around the same age group should not be limited to being inside in the extreme summer heat," Hemphill wrote, urging the commission to fund shade and cooling measures to keep kids safe and comfortable. Staff said the splash pad will add new signage and a designated toddler time following a recent staff meeting; Hemphill asked the commission to place the broader written proposal on a future agenda for formal review.
