Board awards Chalmette High storage-building bid after low-bid withdrawal

Facilities representative Miss Dewey told the board that eight bidders participated in the opening and that the apparent low bidder, Kuzan Services, submitted a retraction after a requested bid-certification letter revealed a mathematical error. "Our initial apparent low bidder... sent us a retraction, explained that they had made a mathematical error in their initial bid and wanted or were requesting to withdraw from the bidding process," Dewey said.

Dewey said the next apparent low bidder was Godson Construction at approximately $830,000 and recommended proceeding with that vendor. Board member Mister Long moved to accept the recommendation; the motion was seconded and, after discussion about the building's location and size, the board voted unanimously to award the contract. Dewey described the project as a single-story, 2,400-square-foot conditioned storage building behind the softball facility to serve cultural-arts storage needs; funding sources cited included the maintenance millage and some capital-project dollars. The board directed staff to proceed with the award to Godson Construction and noted that the Kuzan withdrawal letter was provided in the meeting packet.
