Evelyn Felt, the district communications director, told the St. Bernard Parish School Board that the July "Super News" communications packet highlights summer programs, professional development and staff recognitions. "In front of you, I have your communications, packet update for the month of July," Felt said as she introduced the report.
Felt walked the board through summer programming and accomplishments: teacher attendance at the Louisiana Department of Education Teacher Leader Summit; 145 students earning AP scores of 3 or higher; STEAM and academic-games summer camps; and competition results for Chalmette High’s ProStart teams and Junior Beta students who competed at a national convention. The packet also recognized district retirements and community honors, including longtime educator Doris Voce and visiting alumnus Mitchell Robinson, who was honored after helping the New York Knicks win the NBA championship.
The update also noted leadership transitions. Felt said, "On July 1, Ms. Mary LaMetta officially became the superintendent of St. Bernard Parish Public Schools," and the board welcomed LaMetta at her first regular meeting. The communications packet included upcoming events — a planetarium show on Aug. 1 and reminders about the first day of school on Aug. 7 — and website and social-media engagement statistics for district outreach.
The presentation concluded with a recognition of sponsors and volunteers for summer camps and school programs, and the board thanked Felt for the report. No board action was required on the communications packet.
