Public Works details streets and sewer operations; state aid described as restricted

Sam Robbins described the streets division’s duties and staffing and explained how state aid may be used. "These funds are restricted, as to what you can use the state aid funds for," Robbins said, adding the money is used mainly for road salt, pavement maintenance, traffic-signal power and vehicle purchases.
Robbins said the borough has 21.5 positions in streets operations (including a 0.5 split role) and noted two sanitary-sewer staff focused on camera inspections and condition assessments. He also described routine programs such as leaf collection, an extensive street-sweeping program and winter maintenance. Robbins gave an approximate range for state aid at about $8.45 to $8.80 per year, saying the amount varies with road miles and vehicle-miles traveled.
Council members asked for details about revenue sources and the allocation of administrative overhead; staff said more revenue detail will come later in the budget review.
