Public Works director says 2026 budget is largely status quo; no new positions proposed

Public Works Director Sam Robbins presented the public-works portion of the 2026 budget and described it as largely status quo. "The 2026 public work budget really, remains just a very largely a status quo budget," Robbins said, adding there are no new positions proposed.
Robbins outlined five divisions—administration, facilities, streets & sewers, trees & parks, and refuse & compost—and said the department includes 55 full-time positions plus 12 seasonal roles. He noted administrative responsibilities include capital project oversight, permitting, sustainability support and MS4 compliance with state and federal regulations. Robbins also said two recent hires—an incoming borough engineer (Olivia) and a new transportation engineer (Ron)—will strengthen technical capacity and coordination across capital projects.
Council members asked clarifying questions about revenues and the timing of capital-budget discussions; staff said the full capital budget will be reviewed on Dec. 1 with adoption scheduled for Dec. 15.
