Mecklenburg County awards $25.9 million public safety building contract to Kenbridge

The Mecklenburg County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to award the construction contract for the new Public Safety Building to Kenbridge Construction Company and authorized County staff to negotiate and execute contract documents. The Board also set a cap: "The total cost of this contract shall not exceed $25,936,400," language included in the adopted resolution.
County Administrator Alex Gottschalk told the Board staff had completed reference checks, reviewed prior projects, and visited a recently finished Kenbridge public safety facility; favorable reports led staff to find Kenbridge both responsive and responsible under the Virginia procurement code. The Board also adopted a separate resolution awarding special inspection services for the project to Hurt & Proffitt; those services will be procured under a separate contract and are required by the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code for projects of this scope.
