The St Clair County Schools Board of Education unanimously adopted a resolution on Jan. 26 directing the superintendent and administration to consider discontinuing or curtailing programs and positions and to recommend specific reductions to the board.
Member Mick Rasmussen introduced the resolution, citing the district's financial condition and a drop in student enrollment as the reasons for the directive. The resolution instructs district leadership to identify which teachers' contracts may be terminated or placed on unrequested leave and to propose program curtailments as needed to reduce expenditures.
The motion to adopt the resolution was seconded and carried with votes in favor from Ben Stover, Connie Johns, Mick Rasmussen, Karen Hauser and Doug Westphal; no members voted against the measure. The board did not adopt any specific personnel actions at the meeting—the resolution directs the administration to return with recommendations for the board to consider.
Superintendent Tim Collins was tasked with leading the review; the board did not set a specific deadline for when the recommendations must be presented. The action is procedural at this stage: it authorizes staff work and does not itself terminate positions or programs.
