Commission recommends only one parcel be included in proposed agricultural protection area

The commission considered APA26-01 on May 21, a proposal to create a 20-year Agricultural Protection Area on five parcels in the Tremonton area. Staff reviewed approval standards including current agricultural use, viability for production, and whether parcels are zoned for agricultural use.
Staff noted that only parcel 05-074-0010 is already zoned AHZ; the other four parcels remain unzoned. While staff acknowledged the parcels have agricultural activity and improvements, staff recommended the commission forward a modified recommendation to the county commission that accepts only the AHZ-zoned parcel and denies the four unzoned parcels because they do not meet the standards for inclusion.
Commissioner Jed Pugsley moved to forward that modified recommendation; Commissioner Jared Holmgren seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. The planning commission’s recommendation will be considered by the county commission, which will decide whether to establish the Agriculture Protection Area as modified.
