The Ocean County Board of Commissioners ceremonially recognized the swearing-in of two newly elected commissioners, Sam Ellenbogen and Ray Gormley, during its Jan. 7, 2026 organization meeting.
Clerk Michelle I. Gunther introduced the officials who administered the oaths; the official swearing-in had been performed on Jan. 2, 2026. George R. Gilmore offered brief congratulations and photos followed. Ellenbogen thanked his family and colleagues and said he would focus on stewardship of taxpayer dollars, public safety, infrastructure, preserving open land, and care for seniors and veterans. He noted that he is the first Orthodox Jewish person elected to a countywide office in Ocean County and called for unity across differences.
Gormley, who emphasized his long record of municipal service in Little Egg Harbor, said he looks forward to meeting county department staff and working to advance projects throughout the county.
