Applicant Jay Capener described the cultural and economic importance of farming in the county and asked the commission to support protections for agricultural operations. "Every dollar agriculture generates gets turned over in our community five or six times," he said, noting the role of farms in local employment and community life. Supporters in the public record, including neighbors and applicants, urged commissioners to approve the AHZ; staff recommended approval and the commission forwarded the recommendation along with conditions requiring compliance with relevant code articles and applicable laws.
