County clerk to fill deputy vacancy; internal candidate eyed

County Clerk Eda Shawn Thompson told commissioners a deputy clerk who reviewed payroll, marriage licenses and other duties resigned effective March 13, creating a full-time vacancy. Thompson said Dayton Pichma, a title clerk in the elections office, is interested in an internal promotion and would create a downstream vacancy the county would then fill.
"My name is Dayton Pichma, and I work downstairs as a title clerk," Dayton said when introduced. Commissioners moved to allow the clerk to fill the vacated position and approved the request by voice vote. The county clerk said the change would be effective March 13 and the office would proceed with internal appointment steps.
