Town staff flags Kennebunk River study showing nutrient impacts and traces of human waste

"They also found, human waste that was being detected within it, various degrees depending on when they took the samples," the staff member said, describing the study's results. The manager recommended the town use the August intermunicipal meeting to share study results with planning and code officers and to consider public-education measures and possible ordinance revisions.
Staff cautioned against immediate enforcement actions on private property and emphasized an educational approach while the team investigates sources and regulatory options. The manager said the town will report back after the August 24 meeting of participating municipalities.
