Mr. Bowen presented a map of Pickett Park and walked the board through labeled buildings, telling members the map should help them understand what the county owns and what it does not. “I also have, Shane is here tonight. Joyce, his assistant, and as well as Susan Tucker had put this together,” Mr. Bowen said, describing the packet staff prepared for the meeting.
He told the board the county recently received offers for Buildings 436 and 428 and noted Building 493 (the tractor/lawnmower shed) needs roof repair. Board members discussed past leases (for example, signs- and-designs tenants nearby) and the condition and potential future uses of park buildings. Some members argued the county should avoid long-term operation of small noncore businesses and instead market or sell assets that do not serve core county functions.
Board directions included gathering additional pricing for roofing repairs, clarifying which buildings are included in offers, and considering whether to place certain assets on the market or advertise proffers to attract industry. Staff was asked to return with clearer cost estimates and market information for the board to consider.
