Businesses flagged weeks-long closures as chief concern for Fairfield roundabout construction

Mayor Steve Miller asked about the effect of construction on people who use River Road daily. A city staff member said contractors and concrete companies had expressed concern about long closures and described typical staging for roundabout projects. "Typically, when you build a roundabout, you'll close the road for 11 to 12 weeks and you have to close it in all 4 directions," the staff member said.
City staff said they are studying alternatives to a single extended closure, including closing side streets first and then the center of the intersection for a much shorter period. The staff member said the city hopes to reduce full-closure time to "4 or 6 weeks, or even less" once planning advances, but that exact timing is not yet known.
