Carl Conrad of the Association of Governments asked the council to authorize contact and a small grant to allow Syscom Communications to site a radio repeater on a hill south of the city. "Their idea is if they could cook a, radio repeater up on the hill just south of the city here where the flagpole is 1 near it, it would provide a lot of additional transmission, capabilities," Conrad said, describing expected improvements for transit, emergency responders and other local users.
Conrad said the vendor would supply equipment and anticipated a rent fee for placement and power access; county support would focus on providing a point of contact and helping sort power/lease arrangements. Commissioners agreed to follow up with staff to identify the right technical contact and to explore funding options.
