State health officials and representatives of the National Association of State Head Injury Administrators (NASHIA) on the webinar described the Online Brain Injury Screening and Support System (OBIS) as a new statewide screening resource that will formally launch in North Carolina on Aug. 1.
Scott Pokorny, traumatic brain injury team lead in the Division of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities and Substance Abuse Services, said the OBIS platform "is also a part of our TBI State Action Plan strategy," which the state kicked off July 1. He and NASHIA presenters credited Disability Rights North Carolina for piloting the tool in the state and said the platform will help identify people with possible acquired and traumatic brain injuries across service settings.
Officials gave practical access details: users must enter the subscriber name "North Carolina" and the subscriber code 704. To create a test record that is excluded from analytic datasets, users should enter the test code 7040 on a second login. Scott Pokorny was listed as the North Carolina OBIS administrator; organizers provided his contact as scott.pokorny@dhhs.nc.gov for follow‑up questions.
Organizers said the webinar recording and slide deck will be posted on the Division's webinar web page and that a follow‑up survey will be sent to attendees. The state also plans additional training sessions in mid‑August.
