Chair Bobby Phillips said the committee would move "to proceed as staff is requesting." The resolution authorizes notifying affected property owners, setting a deadline (about six weeks) for owners who wish to perform permitted repairs themselves, and otherwise including the identified sidewalks in bid documents for city contractors to perform the work.
The vote formalizes the first procedural step; staff told the committee the city will either accept owner-paid work, accept upfront payment, or contract the work and assess remaining costs to property taxes over a five-year period through the county auditor's office. John Vance of the engineering department told the committee the engineer's estimate for the 14 parcels is just under $202,000.
Next steps include mailing notices to property owners and preparing bid documents. The committee did not specify individual parcel-by-parcel timelines at the meeting.
