Bartlett police arrest suspect in Lucy Hardware thefts; chief proposes flashing stop sign trial at Town Hall Road

Chief of Police Christopher Keaton told the Selectmen that Corporal Patrick Murphy identified and arrested one suspect in recent thefts from Lucy Hardware; the suspect was charged on three counts, spent a night in custody and had her cellphone confiscated for review. Keaton said he expects the phone review to help identify additional suspects.
Keaton also briefed the board on two recent motor-vehicle crashes that resulted in no serious injuries and said charges will be filed in each case. As part of the department's traffic-safety work, Keaton recommended purchasing a solar-powered flashing stop sign for the Town Hall Road–Route 16A intersection, citing reduced crashes in Tuftonboro where similar signs were installed. Selectman Gene Chandler raised concerns that flashing lights could bother nearby residents; Keaton responded the devices "are not very bright" and flash straight ahead. Town Administrator Lynn Jones noted potential grant funding and the board agreed to survey the two closest property owners before proceeding with a one-sign trial.
