Transfer station manager plans partial retirement; Selectmen to decide staffing

Bob Blake, manager of the Bartlett Jackson Transfer Station, told the Selectmen at their July 22 meeting that "the last day that he can work full-time will be on August 28th," and that he expects to begin part-time work on or around Sept. 5 or 6.
Blake proposed a regular part-time schedule covering Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays and said he could work "up to 24 hours per week." He said he would continue handling the business aspects of the management position and would plow the facility in winter before opening. Selectman Vicki Garland said she had "no reason why Bob wouldn’t be paid for the holidays he has already worked through the year," and Administrative Assistant Amanda Gagnon was directed to calculate holiday pay and reimburse Blake accordingly.
Selectmen discussed whether another Transfer Station employee could assume management duties but agreed to postpone a final staffing decision until all three Selectmen can confer. Town Administrator Lynn Jones asked Blake what deadline he needed for a decision; Blake said he would need clarity by the end of August. The board did not adopt a staffing plan at the July 22 meeting and tabled the item for discussion when Selectman Ron Munro is present.
