Public works reports $4,500 pump motor repair; MVD and finance give monthly updates

City department heads briefed the council on operations and maintenance matters during the June 22 meeting. Public Works Director Chalo Luna said the motor at Well No. 4 failed, was pulled and repaired at a cost of $4,500; the department awaits quotes for a fire hydrant repair and will issue an RFP for sewer-plant pump work. Luna also said crews are scheduled to address a fallen pole at the softball field next week and that sanitation staff began work on a new trash truck.
MVD Director Connie Tevis said transaction numbers were down compared with previous months, moved a part-time clerk into a full-time role and is hiring a new part-time clerk; she also said vehicle registrations will increase. Finance Director Rocio Garcia told council that the May operating-cost figures presented are monthly amounts, and attributed higher solid-waste spending to the new trash truck. Municipal Judge Carlton Glen Jenkins noted his clerk will undergo surgery July 21 and be out for approximately six weeks.
