The Seminole County School Board voted to adopt tentative millage rates for the 2026–27 fiscal year, approving Resolution 2026-10 at its July 28 budget hearing.
Staff recommended the board adopt a total tentative millage of 5.231 mills, comprised of required local effort (2.975 mills), a prior period funding adjustment (0.008 mills), basic discretionary operating (0.748 mills) and capital (1.5 mills). "The total millage rate to be levied exceeds the rollback rate by 3.31%," Mr. Pavelczyk said during the presentation.
Board members confirmed the proposed millage is lower than last year’s rate before the vote. A staff member read the motion recommending adoption: "That the school board of Seminole County approve resolution number 2026-10 adopting the tentative millage rates." A motion was made and seconded, and the chair called the vote; the motion passed.
Why it matters: the millage sets the district’s local property-tax levy used to support operating and capital needs. Staff noted the proposed levy is slightly lower than 2025–26 but still above the calculated rollback rate, which would have produced the same revenue as last year when applied to current taxable values.
Next steps: the hearing is the first of two required TRIM hearings; staff said a final budget with carryover balances will be presented at the board’s September 8 meeting.
