Design and construction teams outline safety, staffing and utility work at jail site

Doug Shaw, principal of Jericho Design Group, said the design priorities are safety and security for officers and better space for those receiving treatment: "We were trying to achieve... safety and security of the officers, the people who work here." Shaw described support spaces, offices and group rooms to enable a thread of care through the facility.
A Warren Associates representative said phase 1 created about 97 parking spaces to replace 65 and reported that interior work (phase 2) has begun. He said the Macon Water Authority furnished piping and valves estimated at "probably over 100 to $150,000" and warned that relocating three major water mains under the site will require significant excavation and could reveal surprises underground.
