Mayor highlights summer jobs program with Peoria Trucking, vows continued youth training

Mayor Freddie Wilson told the board the village is running a summer youth program that put 37 young people to work in partnership with Peoria Trucking and that the village is providing hands-on construction training for eight eighth-graders bound for Bloom Trail High School.
"Peoria Trucking ... gave 37 kids jobs for the summer along with the village," Wilson said, adding that he is personally teaching the group how to read tape measures and use levels. He described the training as aimed at keeping students on track academically and equipping them with job skills.
Wilson said the board has approved the program and urged trustees and staff to cooperate on village priorities, noting persistent challenges with outside contractors and litigation that the board must address together. He also said the program is limited to eighth graders this season and is intended to reduce school disciplinary removals by preparing students for the expectations at Bloom Trail.
