WPCA: sudden storm pushed flows to 25–27 million but plant avoided violation

Following an unexpected storm that sent up to 2–3 inches of rain in a short period, staff reported plant flows spiked to about 25–27 million gallons from a 6.5–7 million average, but the plant remained within allowable exceedances and recorded no violation.
A committee member asked how the wastewater plant performed during an extreme short-duration storm earlier in the week. Mister Hyde said the plant handled the event well and remained inside permitted limits: rainfall exceeded forecasts (about 2 inches in the first 15 minutes and just over 3 inches total), and flows rose to roughly 25–27 million gallons from a typical 6.5–7 million gallons, but the facility remained within its allowance for two exceedances per month and therefore did not record a violation.
"Our flows went up to, 25 to 27,000,000 from we've been averaging around 6.5 to 7,000,000 this year," Hyde said. He told the board personnel and the plant operations performed well during the unexpected storm; he also confirmed no floodwater entered the facility from the river, and that backup generator/startup issues are being addressed.
