Council approves $1.3 million for Bunnell High track, amends CIP appropriation

Councilor Renee Gibson, who moved the amendment, framed the proposal as a community investment: "It is the only regulation track in town. It is used by both Bunnell and Stratford high schools, both middle schools, youth athletic programs, community organizations, and countless residents who visit it every day." Gibson told the council that repairs have been only short-term fixes and that replacement is needed for safety and long-term use.
The council approved the amendment following a roll-call vote called by the clerk; the chair announced the ordinance adopted. The item was discussed as part of the capital improvement program for fiscal year 2026–27 and councilors emphasized the project's benefits for student safety, community health and shared athletic use.
