Center launches workshop series to help states build direct care workforce data systems

The Direct Care Workforce Strategy Center opened a new multi-session web workshop aimed at helping states move "from what data do we have" to using data strategically to inform direct care workforce policy, a presenter said.
"Data is not the goal. Answering meaningful workforce questions using the data, that's the goal," said Julie Bershatsky of the University of Minnesota, who framed the session's objectives: understanding data sources, aligning them to workforce questions, and prioritizing gaps.
Organizers said the series will combine state teams, national partners and subject-matter experts to spotlight practical strategies and tools. The recording, slides and related resources will be posted on the Direct Care Workforce Strategy Center microsite at acl.gov/dcw.
Why it matters: many states collect workforce-related data but lack a structured approach for evaluating whether those sources answer policy questions about recruitment, retention, pay and unmet care needs. The Center intends to help states score and prioritize improvements so limited resources can be focused on high-impact fixes.
