Mason said the grant application was structured so the county's matching requirement would be met with in‑kind contributions (equipment and staff time) rather than a large cash outlay; if the grant is awarded, the office plans to request authorization to hire a grant manager paid entirely from grant funds. Officials described recent storm response coordination among county rescue, fire departments and federal weather teams as part of preparedness planning that informed the grant request.
