Staff keeps fire station option in downtown RFP; member suggests a downtown library

Tracy Reich told the committee that Fire Station 1 will need to relocate and that staff included a potential civic/public-safety site in the solicitation after direction from the city manager. "Fire station 1 needs to relocate in the near future and they have requested that we take a look at this site with that," Reich said, adding the RFP phrases the civic use as a potential two-acre component so developers might propose integrated solutions.
Reich reassured members that the intent is not to pursue eminent domain for single-family homes and explained the approach as a long-term, 30-year framework. Member Kelly Ortiz Thompson said she would also like to explore a downtown library, telling the committee she "would love to see a library downtown, a big 1." Reich said staff would speak with the library district about siting requirements and would follow up.
