Advocates for the raise argued that increasing the leadership salary was necessary because "three employees in the Sheriff’s Department currently earn more than the Sheriff," and that the increase would better align the position with neighboring counties. Rep. Boudman cited an average sheriff or police chief salary of approximately $114,833 among full-time police departments in Carroll County when explaining her yes vote. The motion passed 11–1.
