Police Chief David Pernice summarized the department's activity for July and the period from June 1 through Aug. 13, saying the borough handled 269 calls — "averaging about 3.63 calls per day." He listed incident types that have consumed officer time, including vehicle pursuits, protection-from-abuse petitions, warrants, domestic incidents, drug activity, homelessness-related calls, suicide and mental-health incidents, vandalism and burglary.
The chief reported that he and Officer Shelly attended Alert Active Shooter training on July 24 and 25 hosted by Millcreek PD and called the training "very beneficial." He also said the department applied to and received awards from the UC Community Foundation for four tasers and for additional security cameras to cover another section of North Main Street, adding equipment is intended to improve officer safety and street-level observation.
