Selectboard discusses East Dorset flooding response and village traffic-calming plans

The Selectboard received two linked infrastructure updates: work to address East Dorset flooding and an effort to design traffic-calming measures in the village.
Town staff have engaged engineers to estimate costs associated with moving a road and to prepare the benefit-cost analysis required for a FEMA application. Staff said state officials are confident the Town would have a favorable outcome when it applies for FEMA assistance. On traffic, the Town held a March 13 kickoff with engineering firm MSK for East Dorset speed and calming design; staff said residents can expect a partially complete plan and public presentation by mid-summer.
The board reported a right-of-way permit application to move radar speed signs to locations on Rt. 30 and said current signs will be reinstalled at Dorset West Road (near Nichols Hill) and Dorset Hollow Road (near Barrows Heights). Staff emphasized additional outreach when design plans are available.
