Martin said the county had posted a draft that contained two grammatical errors and reviewed options for the board. TCRC member Jeff Ortiz asked about expected timeline; Martin noted that counties in Plan III saw quick turnarounds during the 2022 regular redistricting process.
Supervisor Latifah Faisal moved to reject the First Plan; Supervisor Lisa Heddens seconded the motion. The board asked for a new LSA map that would prioritize more compact district shapes, minimize splits in precincts following municipal annexation, and aim to reduce potential voter confusion. The motion carried on a unanimous roll-call vote.
The board did not adopt an alternative map at the meeting and directed staff to work with the LSA and the TCRC on the next submission. No timetable for the second plan was specified in the meeting record.
